Background
Micrometer or nanometer powder means the dimension of particle is too small to settle in liquid because of particle's Brownian motion. Thus, they exist as a state of suspended liquid, which cause solid- liquid separation of superfine particle become extremely difficult. 
At present, nanometer powder produced by wet process normally contain various dissolved impurities ion, which affect application performance of final product . To increase the purity of nanoparticle product,most of the dissolved ion have to be removed. General way is to rinse super-fine powder slurry with plenty of pure of deionized water before spray drying. This is also involved in solid- liquid separation.
Traditional  methods like gravity sedimentation, centrifuge are not so effective for desalination of slurry in so small particle size. Disadvantages are high product loss,low final product quality ,cloudy filtrated water discharge, too much water consumption,high labor and maintenance cost,etc. 
Due to the nanometer pore size and “cross-flow filtration”,CRM membrane has been widely and successfully applied in nanometer particle production. All the nanometer particles will be rejected by the CRM membranes, while the dissolved ion will pass through. By continuously adding fresh pure water during filtration, the total dissolved solid will be reduced to a very low value.
